I read the article on page 4 of the September 24 Oberon Review ("Hub Project Starting") with total disbelief.
Are the residents of the Oberon local government area being given an IQ test to see if anyone has more than one functioning brain cell, or is it a test to see if we have all turned into zombies?
OTHER RECENT LETTERS:
Is Oberon really in need of another meeting hall? What about the RSL club, the showground, the Malachi Gilmore Hall or even the O'Connell fire shed?
I have resided in the Oberon LGA for over 30 years, and only twice in that time has Oberon required a meeting hall larger than the current Hooper Centre can accommodate. And that was for the amalgamation issue, and those meetings were held at the RSL and the showground.
To demolish a perfectly good meeting hall to be replaced by a massive "white elephant" is, well, insane to put it mildly, and at a cost of around $4.1 million, have the councillors lost the plot?
Residents of Oberon LGA, contact your councillors and tell them to wake up and stop this insanity.
At the very least, there needs to be public meetings, and not some fake poll like the SRC poll that was conducted before the fluoridation vote in council, which was nothing short of an absolute farce.
