COVID-19 has made it a testing time for all sport and the Bathurst Hockey Association made the decision to go ahead with a short season, with the two top teams on the ladder to play in the grand final.
The Oberon women had lost one game against the competitive Kelso team through the season, which resulted in Kelso and Oberon equal first, but Kelso ahead on goals by one.
The pressure was on in the grand final on Saturday. If there was a draw or nil score, Kelso would take the win.
Kelso started off red hot, scoring in the first two minutes. This rattled Oberon and they knew that they now had to work extra hard to get back on the scoreboard. Oberon's forward line worked hard with short passes, which paid off when Georgia equalled the score.
Both Oberon and Kelso were extra hungry now, with both teams trying so hard to score, but Oberon's awesome defence line and goalkeeper Vanessa kept any ball out. At half time, the score was 1-all.
Oberon took to the field after the break wanting the win. Oberon eventually broke through Kelso's strong defence and Emina popped the ball into the goal to take the score to 2-1, Oberon's way. Kelso tried to score before fulltime, but Oberon were too strong.
A huge thank you must go out to the team's super coaches, Tanisha Miller and Clare Mawhood, and the team sponsors, Mawhood's IGA, Sunny Point Pastoral and Co, P and G Varlas Automotive, Oberon Mini Storage and Oberon Council.
