THE Oberon Tigers held their annual Can Assist charity round last Saturday and, in the face of the last 12 months in which the community has dealt with one of the worst droughts in history, a devastating bushfire and the COVID-19 pandemic, the result was described as simply overwhelming.

The small Oberon rugby league community raised over $21,000.
The money will help individuals and families battling cancer.
"It just goes to show what a generous and community minded town we live in," Tigers secretary Neil O'Grady said.
Due to COVID safety restrictions, the auction was held on the ground after the last game.
"James Walton and Greg Ryan from Bowyer and Livermore let fly with an auction performance that was beyond belief. Without their support, the amount raised was never going to be achieved," Mr O'Grady said.

"League tag character Renee Newstead's jersey attracted a final bid of $1000 from one particularly ardent fan.
"The demand for the special, one-off Can Assist charity jersey that the ladies and men played in will ensure this tradition continues for many years to come.
"The Tigers would like to thank all who contributed to a fantastic result.
"It demonstrates the power of sport and community in making good things happen in challenging times."
