However, council's webpages actively encouraged people to visit Oberon (the vast majority from Sydney, which has many hot spots for COVID-19).
Anyone who was in Oberon over the snow weekend would have witnessed the blatant disregard of social distancing by the vast majority of visitors.

To actively encourage mass tourism to a small town with a large elderly population and a dedicated aged care facility during a pandemic is absolutely reprehensible conduct.
I think no-one stopped to think that there are still active transmissions of COVID-19 happening in Sydney, being blinded by the chance to make a quick buck.
If COVID-19 breaks out in Oberon, and gets into our aged care facility, who is going to be responsible? I think the answer is obvious.
Tourism is a good thing for Oberon, but given the elderly population, steps must be taken to prevent unnecessary sightseeing until this pandemic is over.
