The Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday reported another 278 new coronavirus cases were detected across the state in the past 24 hours.
It marks a significant drop in cases and deaths from yesterday's total of 410 new infections and 21 deaths - the state's deadliest ever day. Victoria recorded 331 new cases on Tuesday and on Monday there were 322 new cases.
Across regional Victoria, Greater Bendigo recorded one less active case on Wednesday. There were 53 active cases in the local government area.
Mount Alexander Shire also had one fewer active case, with two in the local government area.
Campaspe Shire had two active cases, one more than Tuesday, while case numbers in the Macedon Ranges, Loddon, Gannawarra, and Central Goldfields shires remained stable.
There are 86 active cases of COVID-19 in central Victoria.
