New owners, Chandra and Pav Ratnam, took over last week after selling their 22-room motel in Wellington after 19 years of ownership.
"We've also owned motels in Wee Waa and Brewarrina," Mr Ratnam said.
He said the Big Trout was an obvious choice for them.
"Oberon is a beautiful country town and the people are very friendly. The location and distance to Sydney, where our children live, is perfect."
The Ratnams immigrated to Australia 28 years ago from Fiji.
"One of the first things we will do is upgrade the rooms with reverse cycle air-conditioning," Mr Ratnam said.
"The licensed restaurant with popular Chinese and Australian cuisine will remain."
Mr Ratnam said he knows this is a bad time for the motel industry with drought, bushfires and now COVID-19, but "we will get through these trying times and we have confidence in the tourist industry in Oberon".
