With Justin in the gig for his father, he got the better of two tense finishes as Jack Rocks ($1.60 favourite) got home by a head and stablemate Sputnik ($3.70) edged out his closest rival by a short half head.
In the case of Jack Rocks, a lightly-raced four-year-old the father and son also own, it marked a maiden career win.
Lining up for just his fourth start in the TAB Odds and Evens Pace (2,260 metres), the Pet Rock x Zara Rose gelding was able to take the lead after going from barrier two.
He set a gentle tempo with a 62.4 seconds opening half to lead by around four metres, but down the home straight Jack Rocks had to turn on the speed.
Trent Rue's Wiggle Wiggle Woo ($14) challenged on his outside, but the favourite held on.
