The collection includes quite a number of antique coins from Australia, the USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany and Israel. In some cases, the coins date back hundreds of years and appear to be in good condition.
Police say they are hopeful that someone may know of a family member or friend who owns the collection.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Chifley Region Enforcement Squad on 6332 8699, Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Oberon Police on 6336 1000.
