Oberon Garden Club's first meeting for the year was very well attended.
There was much to discuss, including the visits planned by the outings committee and the Winter Botanica celebration which will be based at the Malachi Gilmore Hall.
The Winter Botanica includes many opportunities for competition entries in multiple categories, so start planning. Entry forms and details will be available soon.
There were some lovely entries in the OGY competition, including liliums, bedding begonias, vegetable garden produce, dahlias and rudbeckia.
The winner, chosen by new member Jennifer Stewart, was Pauline Galea with a collection of spinach, parsley and tomatoes.
A new segment started at this meeting, called "Did You Know?", and will be a part of each meeting from now on.
The first one was a talk by Nancy Brown on silver and white plants. Hardy Beilharz will present the next one.
There were many salvia cuttings distributed, kindly provided by Bev O'Brien, as well as a lovely salvia plant won as a raffle prize by Cath Biddle.
The Troubleshooting segment provided the opportunity for members to find answers to gardening problems - always useful.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, March 16 at 10am at the Uniting Church Hall. Morning tea contributions welcomed. Bring along your OGY entries.
After the meeting, members are invited to wander through Bernice Keft's garden. We have also been offered the opportunity to buy bulbs from Bulbs Direct to support O'Connell school's fundraiser, so please support this good cause if you can.
The first outing for the year is happening this month too.
A car pool will depart from the Community Centre in Fleming Street at 8.30am on Friday, March 20 for Mount Tomah Botanic Gardens. BYO morning tea and lunch. There is a lot happening!
Do try and be involved in the many opportunities offered. No wonder new members are joining each month.
