There was the normal 12 holes social competition and Super Six on Thursday and Saturday was the final round of the Fourball Par Championship coupled with the Robinson family annual celebration and presentation of the Jack Robinson memorial trophy.
Twenty-two golfers played the Thursday afternoon social competition. Bill Wilcox showed good form to win with 30 points and Eric Whalan was nearest the pin on the 17th. Balls went to Alan Cairney, Mick McKechnie, Hugh O'Neil, Doug Collins, Peter Griffiths, Laurie Murphy and Eric Whalan.
The final round of the Fourball Par Championship attracted a field of 41 golfers for the second week in a row. There were some very good scores put together to challenge the leading teams from last week.
However, the leaders from last week, Mick English and Ian Fowler, put together another outstanding round of plus 10 to give the final score of plus 20 and be crowned 2020 fourball par champions. Dom York and Peter Stewart had a fine round of plus 11 to make them runners-up with a total of plus 18. Dom and Peter won the event on the day and the runners-up were Mick and Ian.
Another important match was played on Saturday: the final of the fourball match play. This match was played by Robyn Stapleton and Katie Graham against Harold Lyme and Hugh O'Neil.
There was a fair bit of male pride being defended in this match so the pressure was on Hugh and Harold. Nevertheless, Hugh and Harold triumphed to win the match three and two.
Nearest the pin on the first hole went to Robyn Stapleton and Bart Fitzpatrick was closest on the ninth. Balls went to Luke Christie Johnston, Bart Fitzpatrick, Mick McKechnie, Mark Mathews, Eric Whalan, Dennis O'Connell, Bill Wilcox, Kim Rawlings, Blake Miller, Don Miller, Terry Robinson, Lenore Zamparini and Bob Rickard.
The Robinson family has an annual family get-together at the club to coincide with the Jack Robinson Memorial Shield presentation. There were in excess of 40 in their party who enjoyed a mid-morning breakfast at the club before going out on to the course for a game.
The annual Trainee Pro-Am will be held on Monday, March 9. Oberon will be making a visit to our buddy club Oatlands on Sunday, March 15. Put your names down for this event.
