The Insurance Council of Australia says 3870 claims for $294 million have been received since September.
About 72 per cent of claims have come from NSW, 18 per cent from South Australia and five per cent from Queensland.
But the council says the latest figures don't include the recent property losses in eastern Victoria and southern NSW.
"It is likely these will be lodged with insurance companies and brokers over the next few weeks as householders, primary producers and business owners gain access to their properties," it said in a statement.
The council has also extended its bushfire catastrophe declaration to include eastern Victoria allowing for claims to be prioritised.
