Drought and well above average temperatures have been a sign of the times during 2019 and it looks like the year will end on the same note.

With more than 120 fires raging across the state, the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has declared a total fire ban across the region for Tuesday.

Council areas in the ban include: Blayney, Bathurst, Cabonne, Cootamundra-Gundagai, Cowra, Hilltops, Lithgow, Mid Western, Oberon and Orange.

The total fire ban will be in place until 11.59pm on Tuesday.

During a total fire ban, no fire may be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended. This includes incinerators and barbecues which burn solid fuel such as wood, charcoal or heat beads.

No general purpose welding, grinding, soldering or gas cutting can be done in the open.

Meanwhile, firefighters in the region fear the massive Gospers Mountain fire may join up with the Palmers Oaky blaze.
