Wodonga's Kylie Whitehead finished with the bronze medal in the women's singles at the Australian Championships at Merimbula on Thursday night.

The World Singles Champion of Champions defeated Australian representative Kristina Krstic, 25-23, in her medal playoff.

Whitehead could only manage second in her section after a nail-biting 25-24 loss to another Australian Jackaroo Chloe Stewart.

The world champion hit back with a 25-20 win against Darwin's Colleen Orr and reached the medal match by defeating South Australian Melissa Morrow, 25-15.

Stewart finished with gold with a 25-12 triumph against Genevieve Delves.

Whitehead returns home to skip a rink in Wodonga's A1 pennant side against YMGCR on Saturday, before lining up with Yackandandah's Mary Tragardh for the finals of the state pairs at Corowa Civic.
