Travelling around the state for Tennis Australia's hot shots racquet roadshow, Australian tennis player Kim Birrell is more than happy to help Tasmania's youth.

Speaking at Launceston Preparatory School, the 21-year-old imparted her wisdom on the students, promoting hard work and goal setting before heading out for a hit.

"It [helping the future] is something I've always been passionate about because I've had such an amazing experience with tennis," Birrell said.

"I've learnt so many things about myself through the sport and I just think it's an amazing opportunity for making friends.

"If they want to keep playing, there's so many opportunities that can come your way through tennis."

Practically raised on a tennis court through generations of family connections with the game, the German-born Queenslander said she literally wouldn't be here without tennis - as her mother and father met through the sport.

Having played in Launceston and Hobart, this isn't Birrell's first experience of Tasmania, sharing a special connection with the state

"I have some cousins in Hobart so I've spent some time there and I absolutely love it - it's one of my favourite places.

"I've played the Hobart International a few times and it's one of the first WTA events I played so it'll always hold a special place in my heart."

Birrell made the third round of the Australian Open and recorded a top-10 victory before an elbow injury prematurely ended her season.

"I'm getting closer to starting back on court and I miss it a lot, especially coming down here and talking about tennis, playing with the little kids, it's made me miss it more and it's been so much fun."
