Ballarat race walker Alanna Peart has secured a qualifying time for the 2020 IAAF Race Walking World Team U20 10km Championships.

Competing in the under-20 10km event at Fawkner Park, the 16-year-old walked a slick 49:01min (29-second personal best) to place only three seconds behind the winner.

Final selection for the Australian team will be announced in April 2020. The championships will be held during May in Minks, Belarus.

Peart has a hectic schedule and will join the Victorian team in Perth at the Australian All Schools Championships this weekend.

At Fawkner Park, the Australian 50km Championship was won by Rhydian Cowley in 3:52:58hr. That event saw Ballarat Olympian Jared Tallent withdraw during the race due to illness.

Jemma Peart was sixth in the U20 10km, Rachel Tallent third in the open women's 20km and Fraser Saunder finished third in the U18 5km with a PB time of 23:58min.
