A LIGHTNING storm that swept through the region overnight on Friday ignited a fire in a state forest near Oberon.

At 11.06am on Sunday, firefighters were called to a grass fire in the state forest off Shooters Hill Road.
"A member of the public happened to be foraging in the area when he saw smoke and called triple-0," Oberon Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters said.
"The fire was inaccessible via our vehicle so firefighters proceeded on foot with hand tools.
"The fire was contained but not extinguished until Oberon NSW RFS arrived and were able to gain access via four-wheel-drive tanker."

Oberon FRNSW crews said the fire was ignited by lightning.
"Luckily the weather conditions were not as bad as Friday otherwise the fire would have been a lot worse," firefighters said.
