This forum has been put together for everyone in the Oberon community and is designed to increase awareness, encourage discussion and eliminate any stigma surrounding mental illness in this community.
For many who haven't experienced mental illness either themselves or through a family member or friend, it can be very confronting and misunderstood.

Mental illness can be difficult to diagnose and, like many other illnesses, it can be a long and difficult journey to find the appropriate medical, psychological and financial support to alleviate the (sometimes) devastating impact of this condition.
Dianne Gill of ramhp has organised three guest speakers who will tell their stories.
The first is a person who has a lived experience of mental illness and who will give some insight into his journey so far.
The second is a carer of a family member who has a mental illness.
The third speaker is a clinician who will share the journey from diagnosis through treatment and ongoing support, and how to access those services.
The content will be appropriate for everyone - because the more people are aware of mental illness, the more we can break down the barriers and find appropriate local services, support, discussion and acceptance.
We'd like every participant to bring along any hat and we'll throw them up in the air as a symbol that mental illness is no longer a taboo topic in Oberon.
A light supper will be served during the evening and your gold coin donation will go to Australian Rotary Health, which supports research into mental illness.
