Below is a story which appeared in the Black Springs Gymkhana program of events in 1966.
Another great achievement which the Black Springs Progress Association has realised is the recent completion of the Black Springs Tennis Courts.
The project of constructing the Black Springs Recreation Reserve was sectionalised into various phases of development to the stage of conducting the Annual Gymkhana, providing basic facilities for various sports and progressively completing certain segments of the original plan: cricket oval, tennis courts, playground, beautification, etc.

The tennis courts foundation was laid in the overall construction phase.
Due to higher priority of other aspects of the project, much delay was occasioned in the provision of lighting and a first class playing surface.
However, in 1965 finance became available and a 10,000 watt lighting per court was installed. Shortly after, with co-operation of the Oberon Shire Council, the court surfaces were bitumenised at a cost of 300 pounds, and lighting amounting to 270 pounds.
The material for the steel pipe and netting fence, net posts and weather shed totalled 150 pounds - altogether realising a total cash outlay of 720 pounds.
All work involved in the construction of these courts was carried out by members on a voluntary basis.
The tennis courts are available to the general public for hire for night play at the following rates - $1.20 per hour, $4.80 per day.
Day play generally is free with the exception of special functions in which case a fee of $1 per court per day applies.
Courts must be booked with the Tennis Courts Booking Officer, Mr T Stapleton at the Black Springs Post Office.
Persons using or hiring the courts are requested to observe the rules displayed.
