Barry Stubbs won the nearest the pin on the first hole. He was 15 metres from the pin, so not really very close. Balls went to Steve Serong, Peter Dale, Joe Casey and Hugh O'Neil.
A good field of 34 golfers played an 18-hole par event on Saturday, September 28. Andrew Yeo was the A grade winner with a good round of +2. Marty Hotham was the runner up on +1.
Mick McKechnie hit some good form to win B grade with +3. Peter Stewart was the runner-up with +1. Nearest the pin on the ninth was Kevin McGrath and Andrew Yeo was just 66 centimetres from the hole on the 17th. Balls went to Peter Griffiths, Alan Cairney, Dom York, Dave Sellers and Barry Stubbs.
Renovations to the greens have been underway and volunteers have put in a lot of hours. Thanks to all those who have helped.
The pleasant spring weather attracted a field of 17 players for the Thursday, October 3 afternoon social competition. There were some really good scores despite the renovations that had taken place on the greens.
Peter Ryan had a marvellous score of 32 points to easily win the afternoon. Bob Slattery, back from a lay-off, was closest to the pin on the first hole. Balls went to Don Miller, Irene Bishop and Andrew Yeo.
Despite the beautiful weather on Saturday, October 5, there was only a small field of 22 who played a stableford round. Alan Cairney loved the slow greens and had a great score of 39 points to win A grade. Anthony McGrath (39 points) pulled up on the back nine and was beaten on a countback.
Robyn Stapleton was too good for the boys and 38 points were enough to be the B grade winner. Laurie Murphy was the runner-up with 37 points.
Laurie was on song and won both nearest the pins - 3.6m on the first and 1.2m on the seventh.
Balls went to Ian Fowler, Kim Rawlings and Darren Gordon.
A small group of 13 played a stableford event on Monday and Andrew Yeo was the winner with a good round of 39 points. Laurie Murphy was the runner-up with 36 points.
Balls went to Alan Cairney, Bill Edwards and Mark Mathews. Nearest the pin on the first was Alan Cairney and Marty Hotham was closest on the ninth hole.
Golf on Saturday will be an 18-hole stroke event. Members will play for the Monthly Medal and putting competition.
Player of the year competition is hotting up with a few of our players well in contention. Saturday scores count, so don't miss too many Saturdays between now and the end of November.
The course greens were sliced, cored and sanded last week. Many thanks to those committed members who helped get this big job completed.
In addition to the renovations, stumps and some nuisance trees were removed. Midwest Irrigation was also on hand to sort out some of the water issues with pumps and programming.
With the warmer weather, the grass is growing quickly. Some help with mowing some of the rough would be a big help.
