Twenty golfers played the Thursday afternoon 12-hole social competition. Darren Gordon showed some of his true ability and, with a fine round of 29 points, was too good for the rest.
Balls went to Marty Hotham, Peter Griffiths, Sean Mooney, Alan Cairney, Kathy Mooney, Andrew Yeo and Harold Lyme. Don Miller gives a nearest-the-pin ball each week and this week it was won by Peter Griffiths, just 1.3 metres from the pin.
Saturday was a beautiful warm, sunny day and attracted 38 golfers. The Whalan brothers showed prowess on the course to be winner and runner-up in A grade. Eric, with 35 points, was just a bit too good for Neil with 34 points.
Justin Evans continues to perform well in B grade. He had 38 points to win B grade from Paul Behan on 37 points. Nearest the pin on the first hole was Dennis O'Connell, who was 2.5 metres from the cup. Domonic York was closest to the ninth hole. Balls went to Wayne Sellers, Rob McGrath, Billy Gascoigne and Darren Gordon.
Ten golfers played a qualifying round on Saturday for a regional final of a two-person mixed ambrose. The competition was tough, but the team of Robyn Stapleton and Steve Serong were just a quarter (66 3/4 net) of a stroke better than Katie Graham and Barry Lang (67 net).
Golf on Saturday is a stroke event and putting competition. There is still time to put your names down for the individual and four-ball match plays. As soon as we have enough names, we will do a draw.
