Oberon Council has announced it has formed a partnership with Spartan Race Australia that will bring the obstacle races to the region for the next three years.
"Outside of the immediate tourism benefits of 4000 to 5000 people visiting our town over the weekend, an event of this stature brings ongoing promotion, business, trade and capability development opportunities for our area," mayor Kathy Sajowitz said.
"There are great opportunities for local folk to become involved."

Spartan describes itself as the world's number one obstacle race series, running events varying in length and difficulty that range from seven kilometres to marathon distances.
Races are held in the USA and franchised to 15 countries, including Australia.
The recently announced Oberon event, which will be held on March 7 and 8, 2020, will be one of five signature events in the Spartan Australia and New Zealand calendar.
Those who travel to Oberon will have the chance to take part in the five-kilometre sprint race, 21km beast race, hurricane heats and 2.5km kids' race.
Spartan Race Oberon will be one of 11 events on the Spartan 2020 calendar and the only event to be held in inland NSW.
Ninety per cent of the participants are expected to come from outside of the Central West area and interstate and international demand for Spartan Australia signature events is predicted to be strong.
"The event partnership with Spartan highlights our commitment to tourism and the development of an events calendar that excites locals and tourists across the year," Oberon Council general manager Gary Wallace said.
"Oberon's unique landscapes, world class attractions, alpine lake and proximity to Sydney and ACT, via the Tablelands Way, made a compelling case for Spartan."
