The grant, worth $47,339, will be used for irrigation work on the greens and to install solar panels to reduce energy costs.

Feberal Member for Calare Andrew Gee visited the golf course on Monday to make the funding announcement, along with the deputy leader of the federal Nationals and Minister for Sport, Bridget McKenzie.

Mr Gee said the spectacular golf course, with close to 200 members, is vital to a small community such as Oberon.

"To help drought-proof the course is a wonderful idea and that's why the application stood out," he said.

The funding has been delivered through the Federal Government's Community Sport Infrastructure Grant program.

Mr Gee said the funding announcement reinforces the Federal Government's commitment to rural community projects.

"Government is about delivering the services and infrastructure that people need out here to make life better and for the last eight years, that's what I've been working on as both a state and federal member," he said.

Ms McKenzie said the grant highlights the importance of sport in regional communities.

"Our government would like to see more Australians engaged in sport and physical activity, and that's why we're making record investments in community sporting infrastructure," she said.

"Participating in sport is beneficial for your physical and mental health, and we understand how important it is to keep families and communities together and socially connected."

Oberon Golf Club president Eric Whalan said a lot of the work at the club is voluntary.

"Any grant offered by the government is well-appreciated," he said.

"This money for infrastructure improvements will help towards our running costs."

Mayor Kathy Sajowitz said saving on water and electricity costs is vital.

"This is wonderful - it can't get any better," Cr Sajowitz said.
