ENGINEERING studies students from Oberon High School, and two other students interested in engineering as a career, ventured off to Wollongong University Faculty of Engineering and the BHP BlueScope Steelworks at Port Kembla on Thursday, February 14.

Students travelled throughout the steelworks' Five Islands facility by bus and saw a molten steel pour from the control room of the blast furnace.
Also of interest to the students was the sheer size of the processing plant. The size of the gantry crane meant the building shook when it moved.

During the afternoon, students were shown through the Engineering Labs University of Wollongong and given a talk about the opportunities for engineering through the university.
Students appreciated the opportunity to see the options available.
