Arts OutWest executive director Tracey Callinan and Oberon Arts Council president and Arts OutWest chair Fran Charge gave the update on the art room project at the Oberon Multi-Purpose Service.
Arts OutWest and Oberon Arts Council have been working in partnership since April last year to deliver an arts program with residents and day-care users of the multi-purpose service.
Ms Charge said there had been a strong emphasis on working with people with dementia, but the program had also extended to others in the service, mainly the aged.
"Clients have responded well to this pilot program, which has seen some significant successes in changing behaviour, increasing engagement, building self-esteem and reducing isolation. We are now seeking ways to continue providing this service," she said.
Ms Callinan told council how Arts OutWest is funded.
"Arts OutWest changed their constitution and the board is skill-based but the advisory board is for everyone to be represented in their area," she said. "We supply support for individual artists, support organisations, cultural tourism and projects such as the art group at Oberon Multi-Purpose Service."
Arts OutWest and Oberon Arts Council are already supporting the project by providing the services of arts and health co-ordinator Christine McMillan for sessions and through time donated by Ms Charge each week.
Oberon Council agreed to contribute $1000 from the Oberon Arts Council Maintenance Funds to assist the art room project. Oberon Arts Council will also apply for Oberon Council's 356 donations.
