Marilyn Upton, a resident of Kelso, near Bathurst, found a galah that was unable to fly because of the severe heat on her doorstep and had to pour water on the bird to revive him.

“We had to look after him. He drank a bit more water and was even sitting in it!” she explained.

“When we noticed him on the doorstep, he was in a state of distress, and we had to pour water on him, which he liked.”

Ms Upton eventually called WIRES Wildlife Rescue and a volunteer picked up the galah later that day.

“A girl called Anna picked him up and she said he was perking up a bit,” she said.

“Hopefully he’s doing alright now.”
