Did you know, it was a newspaper editor who penned that epigram: Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr of Le Figaro, France, in the mid-1800s.

He was speaking to the political and social climate of his era, but it was such a clear-eyed and true insight, it’s stood the test of time.

So too has the Oberon Review, since its first edition in 1984. The times keep changing, and keep testing us, so our decision to vacate the main street office is a considered business case. But let’s be clear: we’re still here.

Our journalist and local sales representatives will still be working in town. We will be more mobile and can be contacted at any time. Our newspaper will still be proudly on sale at Arrow's Newsagency every Thursday.

All that changes is, from the beginning of December, we are now using a mobile working model.

This means Maureen Lawson, Sally Thomas and Essie Fitzpatrick will be out and about in town, servicing their sales clients and interviewing the many people whose faces and stories make up the Oberon Review.

In short, our business data shows that advertisers and readers have moved with the times, and are increasingly using mobile and online technologies to reach us, do business, write letters and engage.

And we’ve evolved too, with a purpose-built system that allows us to put out a newspaper and run a website from anywhere with an internet connection.

Our last edition for 2018 is Thursday, December 20. After a two-week break, the first edition in the new year will be Thursday, January 10, 2019.
