Saturday and Sunday was the Oberon Open Weekend. The weather on Saturday wasn't too kind to us and the field wasn't as large as might have been expected.
On Saturday, the event was a 4BBB stableford and mixed event. Dennis O'Connell and Robyn Slattery combined well to win the mixed event, with Sean and Kathy Mooney not too far away as runners-up.
The men's event was won by Blake Miller and Dylan Kyte with 45 points. Close on their heels were Eric Whalan and Justin Evans with 44 points. Rob McGrath won both nearest the pins on the first and ninth.
Sunday was the main event for the weekend, when members and visitors played a stroke and stableford event. We had players from seven visiting clubs join the locals to compete for the honours.
A grade scratch winner was Andrew Burton from Lithgow, who had a fine round of 70 to be well clear of the rest of the field. Rob McGrath was the runner-up on 76. Max Nightingale won the A grade handicap with 78/70. Daryl Cole from Henbury was the A grade stableford winner with 34 points.
The B grade scratch winner was Steve Mays from Lithgow with 87 and Eric Whalan was the runner-up on a countback with 87. Bill Wilcox was the handicap winner with 88/73 and Andrew Yeo was the B grade stableford winner.
Eric Whalan had a good weekend and won the Keith Cleton Memorial trophy for the best combined stableford scores for Saturday and Sunday.
Golf on Saturday will be an 18-hole stroke playing for the monthly medal and putting competition. Sponsor for the day is Brian Balaam.
