Oberon Council have agreed to place the concept plan on community consultation for 28 days with a further report to be presented to council after that period.
The proposed sporting complex will be located on Borg-owned land on the corner of O'Connell Road and Albion Street.
Council have engaged Crawford Architects to prepare the concept design and specified that it must at minimum include all infrastructure such as power, servicing and water.
The plans include two full size and fitted out foortball fields - and lighting of number one ground, one full size and fitted out synthetic hockey field and three full size and fitted out and lit netball courts with appropriate surfaces.
The concept plans include a clubhouse/leagues club and appropriate amenities for all user that can cater for a minimum of 250 patrons, grand stand capable of seating 300 and a car park for 100 vehicles.
The site will be fully fenced with spectator areas around all grounds. The plans will include two male and two female change rooms with a separate amenities block to be built elsewhere.
A canteen will be built within close proximity to the clubhouse.
Such a facility would be not only a sporting hub but a major community meeting area for all types of social events.
It is considered that the design for the proposed new facility would be considered state of the art and as such would require a substantial injection of grant funds both state and federal government.
It is additionally considered that any lobbying for funding could be undertaken on a joint partnership with Borgs in order to facilitate as much economic benefit to the region for the project.
Oberon Council’s general manager Gary Wallace said this is only early days yet but we envisage a top notch facility that will benefit Oberon residents in many years to come.
“To get the plans out is a good starting point but we are making it quite clear that there is currently no funding available.
“Oberon Council will work with Borg to bring the best outcome for all groups involved.”
