John Jamie Tozer, 33, and Daniel Michael Bushell, 44, of the Metropolitan Remand Centre, Silverwater, were charged with Mr Ciano’s murder back in July following extensive police investigations.
The matters against Tozer and Bushell were mentioned briefly in Bathurst Local Court on Monday, October 15 before magistrate Follent.
During the mention, the court heard partial briefs had been served on both the accused, but charge certificates were still outstanding.
Mr Ciano’s body was found just before 8pm on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 by police and emergency services inside a luxury white 2015-model BMW M3 sedan on Duckmaloi Road, Duckmaloi, 15 kilometres from Oberon.
The Queensland-based 35-year-old was visiting Sydney and had been reported missing the day before, when he could not be contacted by family.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad established Strike Force Kiaka to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Ciano's death.
Following extensive investigations, Tozer and Bushell were arrested at Silverwater on Thursday, July 26.
Tozer was charged with murder. Bushell was charged with murder and tamper with evidence with intent to mislead judicial tribunal.
Police will allege the men gave Mr Ciano a cocktail of prescription and prohibited drugs, which were at fatal levels, and then drove him to Duckmaloi, where they abandoned his car with his body inside.
Magistrate Follent adjourned the matter, with both men to appear before Bathurst Local Court via audio-visual link on October 29, 2018.
