The Oberon Visitor Information Centre will be running fossicking education sessions on Monday, October 1 from 10am, 1pm and 3pm.
“Come and meet the team and learn the skills and local tips for finding sapphires, zircons, gold and the occasional diamond, which can be found throughout the region,” a spokesperson said.
The Oberon Redfin Roundup will be held on Saturday, September 29 from 8am at the Reef Reserve.
The family-friendly one-day fishing tournament will aim to reduce the redfin population in the dam.
There will be prizes for largest catch, biggest bag and age categories, as well as lucky door prizes.
Anglers will be able to enjoy a sausage sizzle and demonstrations from participating sponsors.
Both events will be part of Oberon Outdoor Week - a five-day festival for locals and travellers to enjoy.
The festival aims to package new and existing outdoor activities to promote what makes Oberon special.
