There were more than 40 successful applications for funding through council's Community Donation 2018/19 program and recipients gathered at the Robert Hooper Community Centre last week to receive their cheques and in-kind donations.
A total of $92,459 is being given by council for the financial year.
Council says the money and in-kind donations are used to support community events, schools, sporting groups and programs offered by external organisations such as the CWA of NSW for its schools public speaking competition.

Council has given $26,000 to LiveBetter for rent and utilities in-kind assistance for Oberon Community Transport, $2000 to Oberon Can Assist for support for cancer patients and their families, and $15,000 in the Village Improvement Fund for assistance for Black Springs, Burraga and O'Connell villages.
Oberon Show Committee has received $8500 for in-kind support to prepare the showground and facilities and sponsorship for the fireworks display.
Mayor Kathy Sajowitz said funding for special projects and the day-to-day running of any organisation is becoming more difficult and competitive, so council wants to support as many organisations as possible.
Schools received money to assist in their presentation nights; Oberon Heritage and Collectors Club received $12,000 funding and in-kind assistance to host the Oberon Heritage and Collectors Fair in 2019; Oberon Community and Farmers’ Markets received $500 for a sound/PA system; Oberon RSL Sub Branch received $1080 to assist with rates, water and sewer charges and Oberon Golf Club received $5000 to assist with buying fuel.
Sporting groups received donations to go towards ongoing costs: Oberon Netball Club $500, Oberon District Athletics $500, Oberon Squash Club $500, Oberon Tigers Senior League $500, Oberon United senior and junior clubs $1000, and Western Region Academy of Sports $299 for the annual presentation. Oberon Relay for Life received $1000 for its relay event in November.
