It was moved at the meeting that the association become an incorporated body, thus giving the community the capacity to benefit from various available grants, therefore enhancing the village infrastructure and promoting community spirit.
Due to the rules of NSW Fair Trading, a new name had to be established, as Black Springs Progress Association had been an incorporated body in the 1980s and the name could not be used a second time.
Members selected a slight variation on the old name and decided on Black Springs Community Association Inc. (BSCA).
A new executive was elected: Christine Healey president, Dominica Lemmich vice president, Elsbeth Alexander secretary and Racheal Maher treasurer.
Under the direction of the new executives and with 50-plus members, the association is moving forward with exciting plans for the village and wider community.
One of the plans currently evolving is the celebration of 60 years as an association on September 14, 2019. A festival is planned for the village, with market stalls, sporting events, activities for the kids and much more. It is hoped this festival will become an annual event and reinvigorate the community spirit.
As many oldies may recall, Black Springs held an annual gymkhana in the 60s, with all the surrounding district participating. These gatherings were beneficial in unifying the village and surrounding districts.
It is hoped that the upcoming festival will capture the same unity.
A heritage group has been formed within the association, and as next near marks the 200th anniversary since explorer Charles Throsby and surveyor James Meehan passed through Black Springs on their way to Bathurst in April 1819, a commemorative plaque and history wall is being planned to recognise not only the first explorers to the area, but also the first settlers.
The Black Springs community has been asked to put suggestions forward to help with the development of a village plan. This plan will ascertain the needs of the village that will benefit the community and increase activities and community gatherings.
Already in the pipeline for the village is new playground equipment for the sports ground. As well, a grant has been lodged to have the toilets at the tennis court upgraded and there is a request for a grant for an all-weather pavement area in front of the hall.
The Black Springs Community Association Inc is currently seeking suggestions for a logo that will identify the organisation and be used to promote public recognition.
A competition to design a logo for the association has been established.
The association invites anyone interested, both young and old, to submit their entry to blackspringscomass@yahoo.com or entry forms can be picked up from the Monkey Bean Cafe or contact Rachael Maher, 6335811 or 0407 604 346.
The winning entry will receive $50.
When a logo has been chosen and developed, the Black Springs Community Association Inc will launch a Facebook page which will be an information format detailing upcoming events and activities.
