With the help of a couple of fellow enthusiasts from Transport Heritage for New South Wales, members of the Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway Inc (OTHR) were able to perform shunting exercises on the Oberon Station yard.
The purpose of the shunt was to move the heritage 1897 End Platform Carriages from one position to another to enable restoration work to continue.
Additionally, sundry other rolling stock was relocated.
OTHR is not far off gaining permission to shunt in the station yard with its own accreditation and at that point Oberon residents and visitors will frequently see movements.
OTHR already holds accreditation to move track maintenance vehicles (TMVs) and these can be seen moving particularly on our open days, being the first Saturday of the month coinciding with the Oberon Community Markets.
For those who missed the train movement, go to our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/OTHR.Inc
We are continuing to work at getting a train on the tracks to Hazelgrove and eventually all the way to Tarana, but you will appreciate that we have to deal with various controlling bodies and have to have our safety systems pinpoint correct for acceptance.
In OTHR operations, safety is paramount.
OTHR is encouraging all social groups in Oberon who are looking for an interesting place to see to consider a visit to Oberon Station working museum.
Group visits can be arranged for any time. Your railway experience will leave you in no doubt that progress is really being made.
OTHR aims to restore the Oberon Tarana branch line, which is some 24.3km long and was built between 1921 and 1923, as well as establishing operating tourist trains and opening Oberon Station as a vibrant heritage railway display.
Come, see and hear our story.
The next ordinary meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 1 at 7.30pm in the Oberon RSL Club. All members are invited to attend.
