The DPI released 500 tagged rainbow trout into Lake Oberon in 2017 to investigate the viability of survival against the onslaught of the introduced redfin, which predate on the smaller rainbow trout fingerlings usually released.
When a tagged rainbow trout is caught, the details can be sent to https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/taggedrecapture and a free lure will be sent to the recorder for their trouble. Twenty-nine tags have been recorded from last year’s release.
The NSW DPI works closely with the Oberon Branch of the Central Acclimatisation Society to stock fish in Lake Oberon and the local fishing streams.
