While most firewood suppliers source their wood legally, others do not, so residents are being urged to ask their firewood supplier where they sourced their firewood.
LLS is responsible for the care and control of travelling stock reserves (TSRs) and firewood cannot be taken from these areas.
TSR team leader Peta Holcombe has reminded firewood suppliers and buyers that there are no exemptions when it comes to taking firewood from TSRs and that hefty fines apply.
For permits, contact 1300 655 687.
Also, Forestry Corporation of NSW controls the amount of firewood and other products collected from forests and from where it is collected.
A permit is required to collect firewood and other timber from state forests for personal use. A permit can be arranged online at www.forestrycorporation.com.au
The cost of a permit will range between $8 and $30. Those collecting firewood should make sure they have a copy of their permit with them.
