IT is sad that it has come to this, however, despite my attempts to help the Oberon Museum move forward into the future, the two people who are running the museum, being Laurie and Ray McMahon, have decided to not answer any of my letters or return even a phone call. Initially, I sought an application form for membership, as have several others, and not even a reply has been received.

It is now up to the community of Oberon. If you want the Oberon Museum (which, by the way, is an incorporated body) to be here for now and the future you will need to do something as I believe the requirements of being an incorporated body are not being met. Proper financial records are a requirement, as are reports sent to the Department of Fair Trading. This should be done annually.
It is also necessary to advertise the time and place of an annual general meeting, allowing the community an opportunity to be part of the committee.
If the McMahons want the museum to go forward, the business of car parking does not mean the museum cannot operate. I believe the placing of the Oberon District Museum into caretaker mode is simply an excuse. They should advertise an annual general meeting where a proper committee can be elected and the museum allowed to progress into the future.
I have tried to be reasonable with the McMahons, however, they will not accept my help, so I will now leave it up to the community to decide what you would like to happen to your museum. You may decide to undertake to have the museum reopened, or you may sit back and do nothing and risk the museum becoming derelict and not even worth having. It is up to you.
