A few of the golfers had a few days of golfing in the Southern Highlands earlier in the week. Alan Cairney backed up from his visit away and, with 28 points, showed the rest of the field a bit of regular golf is good for your game. Brian Balaam and Doug Collins both won themselves a ball.
On Saturday, we played an 18-hole stroke for the monthly medal sponsored by Sean Mooney. Rob McGrath had a marvellous round of 73/70 to win the A grade monthly medal and scratch ball. Scott Rowlandson was the runner-up with a solid 82/72.
Bruce Amery had a fine round of 92/70 to win the B grade monthly medal – his first win since joining the Oberon Golf Club. It was a day for the moteliers: Kevin McGrath from the Big Trout, with a good round of 90/71, was runner-up in B grade to Bruce from the Highlands Motor Inn. Kevin also won the B grade scratch ball. A grade putting was won by Barry Lang with 27 putts, while Katie Graham won the B grade putting with 31 putts.
Nearest the pin on the first was Kevin McGrath, Jake Coles was closest on the ninth and Dennis O'Connell won the 17th. Balls went to Anthony McGrath, Barry Lang, Darren Gordon and Robert Hayden.
Golf on Saturday will be an 18-hole par event. A reminder to all our golfers that there is the option of a nine-hole competition during the winter months if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the cold or wet if it rains.
