Cancer Council was proud to announce last November that Relay for Life would be returning to Oberon for the first time since 2008.
It will be an exciting addition to the Oberon community calendar and will focus on Cancer Council’s mission to raise money for cancer research, prevention programs and support services.
The Oberon Relay for Life volunteer organising committee launched the event by holding a barbecue fundraiser in the main street which was a huge success. They sold raffle tickets, answered questions about the Relay, cooked lots of sausages and there was even a guest appearance from the Relay mascot Dougal Bear.
“We’re really excited about the early support we’ve received in Oberon. Our main street barbecue raised $700 which is a fantastic start to what we’re confident will be an amazing event,” Cancer Council NSW community relations co-ordinator Katherine Bodiczky said.
“We encourage as many people to participate as possible, whether you’re in a team for work, with friends and family, your local club, or even if you’d like to come down by yourself – everyone is welcome.”
Oberon Relay For Life is a fun and moving overnight experience that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention, information and support services.
Relay is a chance for the community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer and to raise money to help save more lives. This year, Oberon Relay For Life will be held at the Oberon Recreation Ground on November 10 and 11.
There will be plenty of family friendly entertainment and activities to keep everyone walking as well as lots of delicious food. We encourage everyone to save the date and we look forward to seeing you at Oberon Relay For Life 2018!
