The club has been awarded a grant of $110,000 from the Stronger Country Communities Fund for major upgrades to its facilities.

Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said the funding would be used for a variety of purposes at the course.

“This includes a back-to-grid solar power system to help keep electricity bills down and a new machinery maintenance area and amenities for the greenkeeper,” Mr Toole said.

“There are also plans to install automatic controls on new sprinklers at some of the tee-off areas and even an asphalt seal on an existing gravel roadway.

“You have to hand it to the members at the club because they all pitch in on a voluntary basis to help out both on and off the course. They really do an awesome job.

“The course is also great for local tourism as it brings visitors to the area, many who stay overnight in Oberon after enjoying a round of golf.”

Mr Toole said the Stronger Country Communities Fund had dedicated more than $1 million to the Oberon community.

Another winner in the Stronger Country Communities Fund is Oberon Council, which will receive a $105,000 grant after making a successful application for gas barbecues and shelters to be established at three popular fishing, swimming and picnicking spots on the banks of the Fish River.

The river has its source to the east of Oberon and winds its way through Tarana and then O’Connell at the northern boundary of the Oberon LGA.

The picnic spots include the Reef Reserve on the banks of Oberon Dam, Flat Rock Reserve near Tarana and Hassall Park at O’Connell.

Other grants include $500,000 for a new skate park; $150,000 for new footpaths; $130,000 for covered grandstands at the Oberon Recreation Ground; and $100,000 for village park and playground renewal.

The skate park precinct has been in the pipeline for some time for Oberon and now looks set to become a reality after the funding was awarded last month.
