U3A members were treated to a lecture and demonstration recently from Steve Watson and Janina Knight on fermentation.
Steve went into the chemistry of fermentation, explaining how foods are preserved, while retaining and developing health-giving biota for the human body.
Janina demonstrated how to make sauerkraut which not only tastes delicious and keeps for months, but also produces a liquid which is bursting with probiotics.
There will be further courses later in the year on fermentation and how to use it in your culinary adventures.
Another popular U3A class has come to an end with the finish of the swimming season. Members had the opportunity to attend 21 sessions from late October last year until March 23 this year – almost five months of great aqua aerobics lessons from the talented and entertaining Sharon Inwood at the Oberon Pool.
If you are over 50 and want a gentle way to get fit, in a warm yet invigorating pool, consider signing up for this class at the end of the year – it’s well worth it.
The Oberon U3A program co-ordinators are busy preparing next term’s activities. If you want to find out more about U3A, ring our secretary, Jenn Capel, on 6335 8226, or visit our website at http://oberon.u3anet.org.au
