The club celebrated 60 years of golf in Oberon on Saturday evening with a very good crowd of enthusiasts. Peter Dale and Kevin McGrath outlined some of the history that has contributed to the strength of the club today.
There was a small field of Thursday golfers this week. Peter Dale took the opportunity to show off his talent and win the day. Sean Mooney won himself a ball.
A large field played a stableford event on Saturday. The club’s 60-year celebration attracted a few old faces and visitors. One of the visitors from Bathurst, John Murphy, showed his liking for our course. With the fine round of 39 points, he was the A grade winner. Anthony McGrath continued his good touch and was runner-up with 38 points.
The competition in B grade was hot. Blake Miller, with 41 points, was the winner on a countback from Linore Zamparini on 41.
Nearest the pin on the first was Rob Hayden (84 centimetres), Marty Hotham was just 51cm from the cup on the seventh, Luke Christie-Johnston took the ninth and Alan Cairney was 7.2 metres on the 17th to claim he was closest to the pin.
Ladies’ winner was Kath Mooney with another excellent round of 42 points.
Balls went to Wayne Sellers, Luke Christie-Johnston, Kevin McGrath, Peter Hutchinson, Mick Coyte, Dick O'Donnell, Rob McGrath, Marty Hotham and Katie Graham.
There will be a two-person ambrose on Good Friday and a stableford event on Saturday.
The Club Championships will be played on April 7 and 8 and the following weekend, April 14 and 15.
The grades will be A grade 0-10, B grade 11-15, C grade 16 and up. C grade will be played as a stableford event, with the aggregate of the best two scores over the two weekends (must play both weeks).
A and B grade will be seeded from the first round on handicap and then on scores each round. The listing of players will be in the golf report next week.
