THE award for champion pen of six steers in the Australian National Field Days steer competition went to the Millner family, Rosedale Charolais, Blayney.

The winning steers were bred at “Geurie Homestead”, Geurie by Robert Millner.

Also at the ANFD steer trial, a pen of six Charolais steers from the Jenkins family’s “Violet Hills” stud at Rydal won the eating quality component of the steer trial.

Each of these victories is a great result for the Charolais breed and for our lively Central Tablelands.

WOOL producers are asked to check their fleece entries for our Royal Bathurst Show, as we’re just weeks away from the event on April 13, 14 and 15.

CONGRATULATIONS to well-known Bathurst citizen John Manning who blew out 90 candles on his birthday cake this week.

John and his late wife Nina managed the Bathurst swimming complex for many years and all involved remember them for their excellent people skills that trod the fine line between discipline and having fun.

ROAD users close to Bathurst city are happy to be living close to recent road sealing projects on Hen and Chicken Lane, Alpha Street, Hollis Lane and Gormans Hill Road.

Some of these jobs have been a long time in the making and are costly, but several of them are providing access links to Bathurst when the climate wheel turns and major flooding occurs along the Vale Creek.

WHEN Coffee Bay won a race at Dubbo trots last week, it was a just reward for Arthur and Carmel Clancy, who have been patient with the horse that had had some problems.

Over the years, Coffee Bay has run in just about everything but the Astley Cup, and trotting supporters were thrilled to see the Clancys and their mate in the winners’ circle.

A TEAM of Winyar blood maiden ewes won this year’s ANZ Agribusiness Taralga flock ewe competition from 11 teams that were entered.

The team was entered by Geoff Croker, “Meadow Drive”, Golspie and judges were Ben Patrick, Yarrawonga Stud, and George Merriman, Merryville.

A junior judging contest was held in conjunction with the event and featured students from St Stanislaus’, Bathurst, Crookwell High and an independent candidate.

Finalist juniors are Tyler Ferguson, Goulburn; Hugh Croker and Cam Trengrove, Stannies; and Darcy Slater from Crookwell.

The final competition will be held during the Southern Tablelands Flock Ewe competition.

THE wool market continued to slide this week with all merino wools losing around 60c/kg.

The crossbred wools also lost around 10c/kg as the northern market indicator finished the week on 1826c/kg, down 43c/kg.

Buyers are saying mills in China are trying to put the brakes on the market so we might see it a little cheaper again next week.

There are two sales left before the one-week Easter recess so we might see the market fairly subdued until after the break.

Next week will see 38,849 bales on offer nationwide.

THE farmer’s wife worked in town and battled with computers on a daily basis.

On a Tuesday morning, she had a problem and asked for help.

A young male co-worker pressed several buttons and the screen came to life.

She asked what was wrong and was told “ID ten T error”.

“But what actually is that so I can correct it myself next time?” she asked.

The smart young man told her to write it down: ID10T.

A BUSINESS lady told her friend that she was desperately searching for an accountant.

“But didn’t your business hire an accountant recently?” the friend asked.

“That’s the beggar I’m searching for,” the business lady said.
