Damien Cook, 23, of North Street, Oberon, appeared before magistrate Michael Allen recently after being charged after a fight in July last year.
Police facts tendered to the court told how the accused, along with four others, became involved in a verbal and physical altercation with each other after one of the parties asked a young girl to stop swearing.
The court heard all parties were at the Oberon Recreation Ground and there was a large number of people in the area as children played at the skate park and weekend soccer games took place.
The group became involved in a physical altercation before a witness stepped in and broke it up.
The parties walked off in opposite directions and got into their respective vehicles, which were parked near the skate park.
But there was then an incident involving the parties’ vehicles and police were called, according to the police facts.
The witness advised police there were three males outside their vehicles having an altercation at the intersection as the witness drove home.
The witness told police he was disgusted by the parties’ behaviour, especially with all the children around the skate park who witnessed the whole event.
On police's arrival, they were waved down by one party who was at the top of the sports ground on the North Street car park.
Police say once everyone was calmed down, a brief version of events was offered.
No person wished to take any further action against the other and they were given advice to stay away from one another.
One party later advised police she wished for the matter to go further and a full investigation to take place.
An investigation started and all parties were advised it was likely each would be charged with affray.
Mr Allen placed Cook on a 12-month Section 10 conditional discharge.
