A report to Oberon Council from its technical services director Chris Schumacher from the Oberon Sports Facilities Committee meeting provides some new information.
Oberon Rugby League Club president Ian Christie Johnston has reported that Oberon Leagues and council representatives recently met with John Borg to discuss Borg’s purchase of the Leagues Club grounds and arrangements for a new facility.
Mr Borg indicated that he would be prepared to put some money towards a new leagues ground and it is proposed to relocate it to the industrial buffer zone between Herborn and Albion streets, though this is pending a decision from council regarding rezoning.
Council is also required to value the Leagues Club land so discussions can progress, according to the report. Mr Christie Johnston believes that even with progress, moving the club will be a three to five year plan.
Council has also committed $33,000 from the town improvement reserves to replace the existing internal Rugby League Club’s sports field water main.
The recommendation was approved due to ageing infrastructure issues that continue to plague the existing inadequate single 50mm poly pipe.
