Cancer Council NSW says the relay is an exciting event for the Oberon community, and will be focused on Cancer Council NSW’s mission of raising money for cancer research, advocacy, prevention programs, and information and support services.
The last Relay For Life held in Oberon was in 2008 and featured 40 teams and 571 people.
The event was held at the Oberon Recreation Ground on September 27 and 28 and raised $62,154.30.
Cancer Council NSW says Relay For Life is a fun and moving overnight experience that gives the community a chance to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer and to raise money to help save more lives.
Oberon Relay For Life will be held once again at the Oberon Recreation Ground on November 10 and 11, 2018.
“We’re excited to be bringing Relay For Life back to Oberon in 2018,” Cancer Council Western NSW community relations co-ordinator Katherine Bodiczky said.
“It is a wonderful community and we have received a lot of encouragement to come back, so we are extremely enthusiastic to be working with the Oberon community to make this event a fun and exciting event in the Oberon community calendar.”
The volunteer organising committee has already started its planning and is looking for people to assist.
Interested people are encouraged to get in contact with Ms Bodiczky if they are willing to help organise and run the event.
Ms Bodiczky’s email address is katherine.bodiczky@nswcc.org.au or she can be contacted by phone on 6392 0800.
Organisers say there will be plenty of family friendly entertainment and activities to keep everyone walking, as well as lots of delicious food.
They are encouraging everyone in Oberon to save the date and say they look forward to seeing plenty of people at Oberon Relay For Life 2018.
