The mercury is predicted to reach a maximum of 34 degrees, which is well above the long-term average for March of 21.5 degrees.
The total fire ban will run for a 24 hour period from midnight and is effective in the following council areas: Bathurst, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Lithgow, Mid-Western, Oberon and Orange.
During a total fire ban, no fires are allowed to be lit out in the open.
The NSW Rural Fire Service website states that a total fire ban helps limit the potential of fires developing.
“During at total fire ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire,” it states.
“No general purpose hot works, such as welding or gas cutting can be done in the open.”
The NSW RFS strongly recommends the community reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property.
