Thursday golf was well supported. Alan Cairney has had plenty of golf in the past few weeks and his form has risen to another level that he will find hard to maintain.
Alan was the Thursday winner. Balls went to Mick Mooney, Don Miller, John McKinnon, Greg Willis and Joe Casey.
One of the best fields of golfers (51) played a stableford event on Saturday and with the course in great condition after being prepared for the major events, there were some very good scores. Rob McGrath played well to win A grade with 39 points and his father Anthony wasn't far behind as runner-up with 37 points on a countback. Peter Hutchinson was a runaway winner in B grade with 46 points. Mick McKechnie was the runner-up with 42 points.
Nearest the pin on the first was Mick Coyte, Jen Capel won the seventh, Darren Gordon the ninth and Peter Dale claimed the 17th. Balls went to Jen Capel, Darren Gordon, Mick Coyte, Mick English, Kevin McGrath, Graham Lawrence, Kath Mooney and Graham Hotham.
There were 96 starters, including over 50 trainee pros, when the Trainee Pro-Am was held on Monday. Wagga Country Club pro Kurt Stegbauer brought juniors with him, as did the Bankstown pro, John Law.
This a great event for Oberon sponsored by Chris McEwen from the Stone Hedge and supported by Bowyer and Livermore First National.
The two winning pros had a fine score of two under 68, while the two runners-up came in with an even par score of 70.
In the amateurs, a nine-year-old had a great round of 43 points to be too good for all the old fellows.
The golf club has recently been encouraging ladies to join in Saturday golf.
Ladies who work during the week find it difficult to make it to golf on Wednesday. This last week we had four ladies play and they acquitted themselves very well.
We will be running a ladies competition on Saturdays for those ladies interested. Come along, bring a friend and enjoy the lovely course.
