Hold tight for eight seconds.
That’s the seemingly simple goal of the daring men who sign up for the bull riding events at the Oberon Rodeo.
“It’s only eight seconds, but it feels like a lifetime,” Oberon Rodeo Association president Mark Hotham said.
The crowd will cheer as gates launch around 800 kilograms of pure rage, bucking and thrashing about, into the ring.
The courageous rider, pumped with adrenaline, will battle to stay on top for an excruciating eight seconds. It is dangerous, some say foolhardy, and exciting – very, very exciting.
The 2018 Oberon Earthmoving Rodeo is on Saturday, February 24, with gates opening at 8.30am and the main event beginning at 2pm.
The rodeo should be on everyone’s Central West bucket list.

If you have not yet been to the day of thrills, spills and cowboy hats then clear your schedule, pack some chairs, water and sunscreen and head to Oberon on Saturday.
Rodeo junkie Amy loves the people and the atmosphere. “It’s exciting, energetic and fast paced,” she said. “I like everything about rodeos.”
Regardless of whether it’s a hobby or a profession the riders usually have spent hours and hours in the saddle practicing their craft.
And if they should come off? Well, it’s just a matter of try and try again.
Get to the rodeo and support the fearless conquerors.
