Patrick James Barde, 26, formerly of Oakville, appeared via audio visual link in Bathurst Local Court before magistrate Michael Allen on February 26.
The court heard how Barde was in the segregation cell of the centre on December 19 last year when he was seen on the CCTV system attempting to pass an item under the cell next door to him.
Correctional officers attended the cell and advised him that he would be strip-searched.
The police facts said the correctional officer asked Barde if he had any contraband or anything he wanted to declare, but Barde said nothing.
Once the search commenced, correctional officers noticed a hidden compartment in the accused's underwear and the correctional officer instructed Barde to remove the items from the pocket.
At this point, Barde swore at corrections officers.
Barde removed an orange-coloured wafer along with tobacco-related items from his underwear, the police facts said.
The search was completed with no further items located on the accused.
The officer questioned Barde if the wafer was “bupe” and Barde said it was.
The “bupe” wafer was secured in a Corrective Services bag awaiting the arrival of the police.
Police attended, but Barde declined to be interviewed. The drug was seized by police and entered in the police drug bag at Lithgow Police Station.
Mr Allen convicted Barde and he was jailed for two months, from February 26 to April 25, 2018.
