As always, the Oberon Show, run on February 10, will feature an action-packed entertainment program.
Whether you have a hunger for heart-stopping, adrenaline-pumping excitement, good old-fashioned pavilion competitions, the crack of a whip, shiny utes, top tucker or a spectacular fireworks display, there is something for everyone at this year’s show.
Adrenaline-pumping excitement, good old-fashioned pavilion competitions, the crack of a whip, shiny utes, top tucker or a spectacular fireworks display - there is something for everyone.
“There is lots to see and do this year,” vice-president of the show society Yvette Wills said. “This good old ag show is set to be bigger and better than ever.”
The show usually falls in the third week of February, but the show society decided to bring it forward a week – and the move has already paid dividends.
“In the third week of February we competed with eight or nine other shows. Moving the date meant the number of stallholders able to come to our show has been incredible,” she said.
Showgoers can browse through the stalls and look at the great range of jewellery, bags, hats, arts and craft, honey, bread and more.
Two additions to this year’s program will add some excitement, Mrs Wills said.
“Mickey Pye has organised a busking competition with a $500 prize. Buskers can enter on the day. And we have introduced a new class in the chainsaw racing for ladies.”
The ladies speed cut will see women have a go at “woodchopping – but with a chainsaw”.
Gates open at 6am, pavilions open at 9am. The equestrian ring events start at 9am and run through the day.
Judging for the Tiny Tots, Junior Showgirl, Miss Teen Showgirl, Master Jackeroo and Teen Jackaroo will be at 11am. There’ll be equestrian events, wood chop and beaut ute competition, prime lambs, flowers, a reptile display, dog show, quick shear, whip cracking and live music. Stroll through the pavilions to view local photography, junior produce, garden produce, jams and preserves and senior cooking.
The day will end in spectacular style with a brilliant fireworks display at 9pm.
